The popular Mini Stock category offers new drivers an opportunity to compete in an entry-level stock car class. Rules are written to keep costs to a minimum.

The Mini Stock division is open to any 2010-and-older approved 4-cylinder automobile with an engine no larger than 2500 cc. The cars may be front or rear-wheel drive. Rules prohibit convertibles, 4-wheel drives, trucks, BMWs, Audis, Saabs with turbo, V-Tec, supercharged, or rotary engines. Also excluded are mid or rear-engine vehicles. The weight of the cars is determined by the engine displacement and cylinder head design.

The body must retain its stock appearance - no chopping, channeling or sectioning is allowed.

Safety is a major concern in this division. Mini Stocks are fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, five-point quick-release belts (shoulder and lap), aluminum racing seat and a window net.

Some of the makes and models typically raced by competitors include the Ford Mustang, Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra, Honda Civic and Pontiac Sunfire.

On September 11, the APC United Late Model Series returned to Sunset Speedway. Once again, they were joined by the G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore Mini Stocks.

The final starting grid for the G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore Mini Stocks was set by points and the results of the heat races. The competitors then raced in a twenty-five-lap feature around Sunset’s 1/3-mile asphalt banked oval.

The first lap of the G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore Mini Stock feature and the pole sitter, Kyle D'Antimo, leads the way in the No. 45 ARM Technologies Dodge Neon. Behind D’Antimo is the other front-row starter, Rob Harrison, driving the No. 1 Tarpin Lumber & Truss Chevrolet Cobalt. Beside Harrison is the No. 28 Ontario Steel Sales Ford Mustang of Connor Maltese, who started in the third position. There were twenty entries for this event.
On Saturday, Matt Boyes dominated the proceedings at Sunset Speedway. Entered in the second heat race, Boyes claimed the win driving the No. 78 Green Tractors Honda Civic. He repeated that performance in the fourth heat. Starting mid-pack for the feature, he charged to the high side of the track at the drop of the green flag. By the third lap, Boyes had taken the top spot. None of the competitors could match his pace, and he secured the victory.
Will Gibbons finished second. He pilots the No. 10 Speedy Auto Works Honda CRX. Entered in the first heat, he finished fourth, then earned a runner-up result in heat three. He lined up thirteenth in the twenty-car field and began his charge early. By halfway, he was third, and on the final lap in the last corner, he passed Jeff Laflamme for second place.
Jeff Laflamme, the driver of the No. 24 Innisfil Garage Door Honda Civic, lost an engine before the August 24 event and competed in a Bone Stock Chevrolet Cobalt to collect points. With the Civic repaired, Laflamme returned and finished third in the first heat. In the third, he took the win. Starting eighth in the feature, he fought his way to second. Unfortunately, he was passed by Will Gibbons on the final lap.
Josh Bullen was victorious in the most recent G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore Mini Stock event at Sunset Speedway. Bullen continues to campaign the No. 67 Ryan's Landscaping Ford Mustang of his late sister. He competed in the second and fourth heats, collecting a pair of runner-up results. Starting the feature one place ahead of Will Gibbons in twelfth, Bullen advanced to third. He then lost the position to Gibbons and finished fourth.
2017 Sunset Speedway Mini Stock Champion Cameron McGlashan drives the No. 83 Kawartha Metals / Orillia Metal Fabrication Ford Mustang. He began the event with a runner-up result in the first heat. In heat race three, McGlashan finished in a disappointing sixth place. Gridded sixth for the twenty-five-lap feature, he ran as high as fourth place but settled for fifth at the checkered flag.
