The popular Mini Stock category offers new drivers an opportunity to compete in an entry-level stock car class.
Rules are written to keep costs to a minimum.
The Mini Stock division is open to any 2010-and-older approved 4-cylinder automobile with an engine no larger than 2500 cc. The cars may be front or rear-wheel drive. Rules prohibit convertibles, 4-wheel drives, trucks, BMWs, Audis, Saabs with turbo, V-Tec, supercharged, or rotary engines. Also excluded are mid or rear-engine vehicles. The weight of the cars is determined by the engine displacement and cylinder head design. The body must retain its stock appearance - no chopping, channeling or sectioning is allowed. Safety is a major concern in this division. Mini Stocks are fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, five-point quick-release belts (shoulder and lap), aluminum racing seat and a window net. Some of the makes and models typically raced by competitors include the Ford Mustang, Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra, Honda Civic and Pontiac Sunfire. On July 18, Flamboro Speedway hosted round two of the 2021 APC United Late Model Series. Supporting events included the Can-Am Midgets and the Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stocks. The Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stocks competed in two twenty-lap contests around the track’s 1/3-mile semi-banked asphalt oval. The event had to be rescheduled to Sunday afternoon after a rainout on Saturday.

The event belonged to Dylan Sharpe. Sharpe’s No. 17 AA Discount Auto Parts / Vandelay Industries Acura Integra sports livery is a throwback to Darrell Waltrip’s Western Auto Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This was the first outing for the Acura since Sharpe suffered an accident at Flamboro in 2019. The repairs must have been successful, as he started fifth in race one and grabbed the victory. Sharpe won the final contest after starting tenth. |

Will Gibbons drives the No. 10 Speedy Auto Works Honda CRX. In the first feature, Gibbons was gridded eleventh in the fifteen-car field. By lap 10, he had moved into the runner-up position but was unable to advance any further and finished second to Dylan Sharpe. Gibbons started race two in the ninth spot. After an incident, he went to the back and maneuvered his way to the front, but could not catch Shawn Taylor and Sharpe. He finished third. |

Shawn Taylor is a Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stock regular at Flamboro Speedway. The driver of the No. 76 Kangaroo Trailers / GM Electric Nissan 240SX started the first contest in the twelfth position and finished tenth after losing spots due to a spin. Taylor would redeem himself in the final race. He started on the outside of the front row and led until lap 15. Taylor could not match the pace of Dylan Sharpe and finished with a runner-up result. |

Sunset Speedway regular Jeff Laflamme made the trip to Flamboro. Laflamme pilots the No. 24 Innisfil Garage Door sponsored Honda Civic. He started the first contest from the ninth spot. Laflamme advanced to finish in third place after passing Karl Sault, Gillian Hils and Dale Millard. He lined up eighth for the weekend’s last contest. Unfortunately, Laflamme’s race ended on lap six. He was the first car to retire. |

Enduro and Pure Stock racer Gillian Hils built this unique Honda Accord Station Wagon with her father, Glen. The No. 32 Honda, sponsored by Royal Pet Grooming, lost positions in race one to Dylan Sharpe, Will Gibbons, and Jeff Laflamme, finishing fifth. Hils started the event’s final contest on the outside of row three but lost several positions on the first restart. She spent the remainder of the event moving forward for a fourth-place result. |

Another Flamboro Speedway regular in the Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stock division is Karl Sault. Sault drives the very fast No. 81 NAPA Waterdown Acura Integra. He started on the outside of the front row in the first feature and led early. However, he would finish in the fourth spot. In race two, Sault started seventh, but early contact dropped him to the rear of the field. He fought his way from thirteenth to a sixth-place finish. |
