The cars competing in the NASCAR Canada Series are constructed to specifications and rules common to most stock car series. The chassis is a steel tube frame design covered with a fiberglass body and must weigh no less than 3050 lbs. Body styles are from manufacturers such as Dodge (Challenger), Ford (Mustang), and Chevrolet (Camaro). Engine type and displacement are determined by the vehicle's make and model. The carbureted eight-cylinder motors produce approximately 525 horsepower. Cars are estimated to have a top speed of 160 mph, depending on the gearing.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Horsepower: 525 hp
  • Weight: 3,050 lbs.
  • Height: 49 in.
  • Length: 198 in.
  • Wheelbase: 107.5 in.
  • Width: 75 in.

There are some newsworthy items entering the 2026 season:

  • On the personal side, NASCAR Canada has appointed Steve Salvas as the new Series and Competition Director, and former driver and team owner Dave Jacombs as Assistant Series Director.
  • NASCAR Canada is also introducing the ‘Choose Rule,’ which is used in many short-track divisions. On restarts, competitors may choose their lane. Their selection may be determined by the condition of the track, how many cars are ahead of them, or the handling of their vehicle. If a driver changes their choice after the designated 'choose spot,' they are penalized.
  • Teams are switching from General to McCreary tires, which are produced by American Racer.

Round thirteen of the 2026 NASCAR Canada Series was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Labour Day Weekend Sprints. Drivers competed on the ten-turn 2.459-mile road course for a scheduled fifty-one-lap contest in the WeatherTech 200. However, a late-race caution led to an overtime finish and an extra lap.

A record thirty-eight NASCAR Canada competitors rush into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s corner one for round thirteen of the championship. Leading the field is the pole-sitter, Kyle Steckly, driving the No. 22 Sierra Excavating / APC / MBS Chevrolet Camaro. Beside Steckly is the No. 39 RGR / Victory Mist / Muskoka Aircraft Refinishing Ford Mustang of Tyler Gonzalez. Immediately behind the leaders are Alex Tagliani and Gary Klutt.
Andrew Ranger is a three-time NASCAR Canada champion and drives the No. 27 GM Paillé / Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet Camaro. His best results this season have been runner-up finishes at Markham and Circuit ICAR. In the series second visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Ranger qualified sixth fastest. With twenty laps remaining, he grabbed the lead. Ranger came under pressure from Marc-Antione Camirand but held on for the victory.
The No. 96 GM Paillé / Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet Camaro and Marc-Antione Camirand have been a dominant force in this year’s series. Camirand has four championships to his credit and seven victories in 2026. With this record, he only had to finish thirty-first or better to clinch the title. Camirand qualified seventh, but contact on the opening lap of the race resulted in a penalty. He charged through the field to finish second and earn his fifth championship.
Cayden Lapcevich made his first NASCAR Canada Series start since 2024, competing at Ohsweken and Delaware Speedways. His appearance resulted from a partnership between Velocity Race Cars and Glenn Styres Racing. The 2016 series champion qualified twenty-fifth fastest in the No. 76 GSR / Ohsweken Speedway / Chantarellie Chevrolet Camaro but started at the rear of the field. Lapcevich moved to the front and finished third.
The winner of the previous round at Circuit ICAR was Alex Guenette. Guenette pilots the No. 39 DLGL / GL Électricité Automatisation Chevrolet Camaro. During the qualifying session, he recorded the eighth-fastest time. On the opening lap, there was contact in corner three between Marc-Antoine Camirand and Connor Bell, which caused Guenette to go off course. Returning to the track, he was well down the order but fought back to finish fourth.
The driver with a mathematical chance of beating Marc-Antoine Camirand and securing this year’s title, albeit slim, was L.P. Dumoulin. The series three-time champion trailed the points leader, Camirand, by eighty-two markers. The No. 47 WeatherTech Dodge Challenger was gridded ninth for the fifty-one-lap contest. Dumoulin finished fifth and Camirand second, ending his championship aspirations. His job now is to hold onto second in the standings with one race remaining.
Gary Klutt is always a threat to win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. His first series victory came in 2015 at the track, and his latest win was in May at the Victoria Day Speedfest event. Klutt was the fourth fastest in qualifying for round thirteen driving the No. 71 AutologiQ / Kleen-Flo Dodge Challenger. He remained in contention early in the race, but a poorly timed pit stop dropped him down the order. Klutt moved through the field to finish sixth.
J.R. Fitzpatrick is another driver with a lot of success at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He has five victories at the track. Like Cayden Lapcevich, Fitzpatrick joined the Velocity Race Cars / Glenn Styres Racing partnership for this event. His last full season in the NASCAR Canada Series was 2014, but he has since won Late Model and Outlaw Super Late Model championships. Fitzpatrick started at the rear of the grid and crossed the finish line in seventh place.
Former Super Production Challenge competitor Connor Bell joined the NASCAR Canada Series last year at the Calabogie Motorsport Park and won in his debut driving the No. 3 Dymon / Komcan Chevrolet Camaro. Bell returned to Ed Hakonson Racing with backing from Dymon, Sangsin Brake, HGC and Fast Eddie. At round thirteen, he qualified fifth fastest. On the opening lap, Bell was knocked off course by Marc-Antoine Camirand; after many pit stops, he finished thirty-fourth.
