The popular Mini Stock category provides new drivers with an opportunity to participate in an entry-level stock car class. Rules are written to keep costs to a minimum.

The Mini Stock division is open to any 2010 and older approved 4-cylinder automobile having an engine no larger than 2500cc. The cars may be front or rear-wheel drive. Rules prohibit convertibles, 4-wheel drives, trucks, BMW, Audi, Saab turbo, V-Tec, supercharged or rotary engines. Also, excluded are mid or rear-engine vehicles. The weight of the cars is determined by the engine displacement and cylinder head design.

The body must retain its stock appearance - no chopping, channeling or sectioning is allowed.

Safety is a major concern in this division. Mini Stocks are fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, five-point quick-release belts (shoulder and lap), aluminum racing seat and a window net.

Some of the makes and models typically raced by competitors include the Ford Mustang, Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra, Honda Civic and Pontiac Sunfire.

Round four of the Switch Tire Mini Stock Series served as a support event during the APC United Late Model and Dayco Super Stock Series visit at Peterborough Speedway on July 13. The contest attracted twenty-four entries, with twenty-two competitors taking the green flag for twenty laps around Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile.’

Twenty-two Switch Tire Mini Stock competitors receive the Starter’s green flag for a twenty-lap contest around ‘Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile Oval,’ Peterborough Speedway. On the pole is the No. 83 Kawartha Metals Corp. Acura Integra driven by Cameron McGlashan. Beside McGlashan is Christen Lavalle in the No. 66 Norwood Auto Wreckers Pontiac Sunfire. In the second row are Coleridge Pinnemore in the No. 80 Honda CRX and John Lavalle driving the No. 6 Chevrolet Cavalier.
Wyatt Sutcliffe and his brother, Jacob, were regulars at Sunset Speedway but, with its demise, had to find other tracks for racing. A week earlier at Flamboro Speedway, Wyatt, driving the No. 72 MacMillan Motorsports Ford Mustang, grabbed his first Mini Stock feature victory. At Peterborough, he won the second heat race and was gridded sixth for the feature. On the lap-10 restart, Wyatt moved into the lead and held it to the checkered flag.
Finishing runner-up to his brother, Wyatt, was Jacob Sutcliffe. Jacob had the honour of being Sunset Speedway’s final Mini Stock track champion. The brothers have made a couple of visits to Flamboro Speedway this year. Jacob had issues at Peterborough and couldn't compete in the heats. He started eighteenth in the twenty-two-car field. Jacob charged to the front in the No. 72 MacMillan Motorsports Ford Mustang and finished second.
Peterborough Speedway regular Christen Lavalle drives the No. 66 Norwood Auto Wreckers Pontiac Sunfire. Lavalle is a championship contender in the track’s Switch Tire Mini Stock division with a runner-up result in the previous round. This weekend, he finished third in the final heat race. Lavalle lined up on the outside of the front row and led early. Unable to hold off the Sutcliffe brothers, he finished third.
Like the Sutcliffe brothers, Blaise Shaw was a regular at Sunset Speedway but also made a few visits to Flamboro Speedway, where he won a feature. Shaw pilots the No. 81X Spira Fire Protection Ford Mustang. After finishing second in the third qualifier, he started the finale from seventh. On lap 8, Shaw hit the back straight wall and bent the right rear wheel. He was credited with a twentieth-place finish.
The Sutcliffe brothers celebrated their one-two finish in round four of Switch Tire Mini Stock Series at Peterborough Speedway. On the right is the winner, Wyatt. This was Wyatt’s second consecutive feature win after beating the field the previous weekend at Flamboro Speedway. Jacob started the twenty-lap contest deep in the field and passed 17 cars to finish runner-up.
